Anyone Can Fit A Kitchen With Our Simple Guide

March 5, 2012

Fitting your own new kitchen will save you thousands of pounds in contrast to contracting kitchen fitters to get it done for you. Considering your regular kitchen costs between £3,000 – £12,000 paying £2,000 – £4,500 to have it fitted is much too pricey for a lot of people.

You will soon learn that fixing kitchens is not difficult though you might like to hire an electrician and plumber for these parts as they’ll make your life very much easier. Often fitted kitchens arrive with the cupboards already assembled saving you a lot of difficulty building them yourself.

One of the perfect ways to understand how to fix your new kitchen is to look at just how your recent kitchen was fitted, you may be re-designing the format but the process will be the same. Having cleared all the previous units you will now have a clear working place to start. You’ll require a number of power devices as well as hand tools such as a jigsaw, power drill, pencil, level, tape measure, screwdriver and hammer.

You can now start by fixing your kitchen floor units into place, use a level to ensure that your work surface will be level once it comes to fitting it. It is at this stage you must cut out sections of your cabinets to permit entry for electrical cabling and piping to be fed. Use the saw to cut out sections of your units to work snugly alongside the walls and then with the drill fix your units to the structure behind. With the floor cupboards in place and attached to the wall you can now check the required worktop length, put it in location and cut holes for your taps and sink unit.

You’re now able to fix your kitchen wall cabinets. It is good to have another pair of hands while doing this as you need to able to draw holes for where you will fix the cabinets to the wall. Take off the doors to your kitchen wall unit before moving it in place.

The Simplest Guide On ‘How To’ Fit laminate Flooring

February 8, 2012

Start by making sure that your sub-floor is completely level, your sub-floor is the floor you’re intending to lay the laminate on. The first thing you need to establish is whether your sub-floor is concrete or wooden as this will dictate how you go about levelling it.

Wooden sub-floors can be levelled with two different materials. You can either use hardboard or plywood, plywood comes in thicker sheets and gives a far more ridged finish to the sub-floor. Of the two plywood will do the job much better as it is much stronger and thicker than hardboard but it is more expensive and harder to fit. For the best wooden sub-floor finish you should always use plywood, also be sure to fix it down with screws rather than pins.

For those of you who have a concrete sub-floor there are a number of self-levelling compounds you can use to level the sub-floor. To avoid any moisture evaporating from the concrete sub-floor make sure you fit a plastic mebrane across the sub-floor.

With the sub-floor completely level you’re now able to start the main job. Start by fitting the underlay to the sub-floor. To stop the underlay from moving around when fitting the laminate use either staples or glue depending on your sub-floor.

After you have fitted your underlay securely to the sub-floor you can start to lay the laminate floor. Start in the far left hand corner with the entrance of the room behind you. Lay the laminate boards from left to right allowing a 5-8mm gap with spacers. When you get to the last piece on the right you will need to measure this and then cut to size, be sure to leave a 5-8mm spacer on the sides as well as the fronts.

Repeat the above procedure for rows 2 and 3 ensuring plenty of wedges are used. If you have used enough spacers or wedges then the three rows of laminate should be fitted securely so as they don’t move about.

Now your 3 rows are secure just continue to lay the remaining boards when you have reached the other end of the space you’ll need to measure the last boards, remember to allow a 5-8mm gap.
